Which organelle is necessary for photosynthesis in plant cells and algae?

• A. Lysosome
• B. Chloroplast
• C. Golgi apparatus
• D. Mitochondrion

Answer: (B)

Verified step by step guidance

1. Understand the process of photosynthesis, which is the conversion of light energy into chemical energy stored in glucose.
2. Recall that photosynthesis occurs in specific organelles within plant cells and algae that contain pigments to capture light.
3. Identify the organelle that contains chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for absorbing light energy.
4. Recognize that the chloroplast is the organelle where photosynthesis takes place, as it houses the necessary structures and enzymes.
5. Eliminate other organelles like lysosome, Golgi apparatus, and mitochondrion, which have different functions unrelated to photosynthesis.
