Hi, everybody. Our next problem says, provide the Iupac name of the given compound and we're given a benzene ring with Bromine iodine and chlorine substituents. We'll go into more detail as we work through the name. Our answer choices are a one bromo. Floor four. Chloro three, Iodopen B four bromo, one, Chloro two IO Tonne C four bromo, three I odo one chlorphen four D one bromo, three I odo four Chlor Robens. So the first thing we need to do is identify the base compound. We don't have any of the special substituents that give have their own name. So no methyl group, no alcohol group, no nitrogen group. So our base compound is just plain old benzene. So we can go ahead and eliminate choice C which is phenol because phenol is a benzene ring with an oh group. So choice C right away, we know it's incorrect. Our other answer choices all have the correct benzene there. So let's look at our three substituents. If we start on the left side and go wrong clockwise, we have a bromine, an iodine and a chlorine, they're all equal priority. They're all halogens. So when we number this, we just want to number, to give the substituents the lowest overall number. So whichever way results in the lowest numbers, overall, the ross overall numbers. So let's think of the different ways we could number this. We could start with iodine but then um and get chlorine. So if iodine is number one, we could get chlorine number two and then because they're adjacent to each other. And then if we were in around two for chlorine 345, and then Bromine would be number five, we wouldn't start at Bromine because the other two, iodine is two carbons away. Chlorine is three carbons away. So that numbering just wouldn't be right if we start with chlorine and go to his adjacent iodine, we'd have chlorine at number one, iodine at number two and then beaming at number four. So that's the lowest possible numbering. So we'll put chlorine at carbon one and then iodine which is adjacent to it would be carbon two. So we'll number those carbons, 123 and then four for Bromine. So Bromine's on carbon four. So we've given it the lowest possible numbering. Now, we just need to determine what order they are in, in the name. And that is done by alphabetical order. I'll just write ABC order. So our first substituent will be Bromine. It's on carbon four. So we have four bromo, then our chlorine and carbon one. So we have, and remember, I've written four hyphen Bromo, hyphens separate numbers and names, comma separate numbers. But we don't have any dual or triple substituents. So we won't have two numbers here. We've got four hyphen bromo. Then another hyphen, then we've got one hyphen chloro. Then another hyphen are iodine, which is the last in alphabetic orders on carbon two. So two. And then we change that to I ODO and then finally benzene with no hyphen on the last one. it just goes right up against the route name there. So our answer is four bromo, one, Chloro two Iodopen. And we see that as choice B when we look at our other answer, choices, choice A has one, bromo four Chloro three, Iodopen. So this would be if we started numbering at Bromine, but again, it doesn't put the next substituent until carbon three. Whereas the numbering system we chose has the next number at carbon two. So that's why choice is incorrect. It's the wrong numbering. It doesn't give the lowest possible substituent numbers. And then choice D has one bromo, three I odo four, Chlorine again, wrong substituent numbers. Just the order put differently. It's not enough but a co order. So choice D also incorrect wrong substituent numbering. So our proper name here is Choice B four bromo one, Chloro two, I Odo Benzene. See you in the next video.
