In this session, we provide insights into how to teach the American history survey course from a visual perspective. Rather than using images to merely illustrate lectures, this presentation will demonstrate how to fully integrate visuals (engravings, photographs, maps, charts, and diagrams) into the classroom conversation.

Having grown up in an intensely visual culture, today’s college students are embracing visual learning. Developing lectures and classroom exercises that cultivate rather than ignore their preferred style of active learning can be a challenge. This webinar focuses on how to teach the American history survey course from a visual perspective. Rather than using images to merely illustrate lectures, this presentation will demonstrate how to fully integrate visuals (engravings, photographs, maps, charts, and diagrams) into the classroom conversation to convey critical information and concepts; marry text and image; enhance critical thinking skills; and enhance understanding of the key debates and choices that have shaped American history.
