Since ancient times, a liberal arts education has been closely linked—in theory and practice—to democratic citizenship. In recent years, however, this emphasis has been neglected, as more colleges and universities have stressed workforce training. In this webinar, Professor Hogan discusses the rationale for a renewed commitment to civic education in the liberal arts, and he reflects on some of the challenges and opportunities that come with an emphasis on civic education in the liberal arts.
