With a plethora of instructional resources available, it is time to shift more responsibility for learning to our students, better equipping them to be lifelong learners. But, how do we go about making that shift effectively and efficiently? After a brief discussion of why and how to influence a shift in attitude, focus will turn to preparing students to hit the ground running to maximize class time. Concrete suggestions with examples will be presented for determining appropriate pre-class preparation as well as how to build upon those out-of-class assignments to enhance instruction and optimize learning through increased participation.
