In this session, we demonstrate tools that engage students between class times, as well as offer alternative activities to assess that preparedness. We also examine tools that give instructors easy access to information that shows how prepared the class will be, drilling down even to individual student preparation.

In this session, we demonstrate tools that engage students between class times, as well as offer alternative activities to assess that preparedness. We also examine tools that give instructors easy access to information that shows how prepared the class will be, drilling down even to individual student preparation.“How can I get my students to prepare before they come to class?” This plea has been heard from instructors across many disciplines. With few tools that engage students in content materials outside of class, or that assess the mastery that content, this goal has seemed almost out of reach. Assessing student preparedness has most often been accomplished through summative testing, which bites into valuable face-to-face time, and does little to engage students. This session will demonstrate tools that engage students between class times, as well as offer alternative activities to assess that preparedness. This session will also examine tools that give instructors easy access to information that shows how prepared the class will be, drilling down even to individual student preparation. Armed with this information, class time can then be optimized, addressing specific areas where students seem to lack understanding. Using these strategies and tools transforms the classroom. Students are READY to demonstrate their knowledge, SET firmly in their preparation, and empowered to GO farther.
