About the speakers

Judy Frels
Assistant Dean of Online Programs and Clinical Professor, University of Maryland
Judy Frels is Clinical Professor of Marketing at University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and Assistant Dean of Online Programs. In addition to her duties as Assistant Dean, she teaches the online program’s closing residency course. She also teaches in Smith’s full-time, part-time, and executive MBA programs at many of its campuses, including Beijing, and continues to publish in top academic journals.

Susan Barry
Manager of Instructional Design, Pearson
Susan Barry holds an MA in Literature from University College Dublin. As instructor at Shawnee Community College, she taught English Composition, Argumentation, Literature, Introduction to Philosophy, and Ethics. As division chair of the humanities and social sciences, she collaborated to develop pioneering fully online associates degree programs, and trained faculty on creating and teaching online courses. Barry joined Pearson seven years ago, first serving as lead instructional designer designing courses for the University of Southern California, and then as a manager of instructional design, supporting course development for 20+ programs at 15 institutions.

Brian DeKemper
Director of Business Development, Pearson
Brian DeKemper is the director of business development within Pearson Online Learning Services. Working with universities, Brian uses Pearson’s marketing and research strengths to develop new program growth opportunities that align with partner strategy. In the ten years prior to joining Pearson, Brian worked on the higher education teams at both ANGEL Learning and Blackboard, where he was involved in all phases of program delivery — from helping faculty with successful technology adoption, to designing service models for fully-online program delivery.
