143 Junior Soldiers out of the 650 that started their Phase 1 training in September 2016 will be studying for the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Public Services. The Junior Soldiers will be undertaking this course following their successes in their GCSEs; progressing their accredited learning at the College with this Level 3 course. On the successful completion of this course they will leave, having demonstrated their ability in the following 3 Units:
The practical elements of the AFC course dovetail with the requirements of the Public Services course enabling the Junior Soldiers to progress their understanding of their chosen career. This develops their knowledge and understanding of leadership, teamwork, health, fitness and the role of Government.
Following a major investment by the Army at the College, a new team of tutors has been recruited to start teaching and assessing over the next month. The introduction of this qualification not only gives the Junior Soldiers UCAS points that would help them later on in their careers, whether they remain in the Army or return to civilian life, but continues their development in English, Maths and ICT in a contextualised environment.
The introduction of the BTEC Level 3 Certificate represents an extremely positive change to the education delivery at the AFC. This will ensure that our JS continue to be academically challenged resulting in greater individual development to the benefit of the individual and the field Army.
