Design and Assessment of an Online Human Anatomy Course

View all tags

Compare online and face-to-face student outcomes in an otherwise identical human anatomy lecture course, and gain new ideas for online course design and assessment.

As online courses become more popular, it is critical to study what factors contribute to positive student outcomes in these courses. This presentation shares results from a study that directly compared student performance and motivation in online and face-to-face human anatomy lecture courses taught at the same time by the same instructor using identical course materials, assignments, and exams. Results suggest that while the face-to-face students scored significantly higher on exams, there were only modest motivational differences between both groups. Attendees can use this presentation’s ideas to design and rigorously assess online course offerings.
