Modeling and Simulation in the Calculus Classroom

Teach modeling and simulation in introductory calculus without overburdening students — or yourself.

Teaching modeling and simulation skills can enrich introductory calculus courses by connecting calculus to real-world applications that go far beyond “word problems.” Modeling and simulation skills are also extremely useful for students taking calculus into follow-on courses in the sciences. But teaching these skills without overburdening students or teachers is a huge challenge. In this webinar, UCLA Associate Professor Marcus Roper shows how to introduce modeling and simulation while maintaining a focus on teaching the rudiments of calculus, and without using programming or specialized software packages (or computers at all, if you wish).
