About the speaker
Professor Christine Alfano
Christine Alfano is the Associate Director for Stanford's Program in Writing and Rhetoric. She teaches first-year and second-year courses with a focus on digital media rhetoric, video game studies, and technologies of writing. With Dr. Alyssa O'Brien, she is the co-author of the Envision textbook series, the most recent editions being Envision: Writing and Researching Arguments, Fifth Edition, and Envision In Depth, Fourth Edition. Her research interests include digital rhetoric, visual rhetoric, and writing program administration. In the classroom, Christine challenges students to explore how writing within and among different modes (from conventional academic documents, to tweets, blogs, and Instagram posts) transforms the modern practice of communication and how we represent ourselves in our increasingly technologically-media culture.
