Balancing the Macro and the Micro in the Sociology Classroom: Empowering Our Students

View all tags

Join Professor Jodie Lawston of California State University, San Marcos to explore how to balance the macro and the micro levels in the classroom, with an emphasis on empowering our students to engage with the social structure of society.

In this webinar, we discuss how students often enter the sociology classroom having an individualistic understanding of the world, while sociologists, on the other hand, tend to be interested in putting these beliefs in a social context, and working. We explore strategies to get students to think critically about how the macro-level, or social structure, of society influences our lives and provide examples of how to balance the macro and the micro levels in the classroom, with an emphasis on empowering our students to engage with the social structure of society.
