We share an example of a performance project in an introductory theatre course as a model to plan, scaffold, guide, and assess non-majors so as to ensure group and individual accountability.

Dr. Beth Osborne, Florida State University
Dr. Beth Osborne is an award-winning associate professor in theatre studies at Florida State University. In addition to courses in theatre history, literature, and theory, she has taught 600-1,200 students annually in introduction to theatre for twelve years. She co-authored the second edition of the digital textbook Explore Theatre (with Michael O’Hara and Judith Sebesta), and has published articles on graduate and undergraduate education. Her book, Staging the People: Community and Identity in the Federal Theatre Project (Palgrave, 2011), focuses on a decentralized reading of the Federal Theatre Project. She also co-edited Working in the Wings: New Perspectives on Theatre History and Labor (Southern Illinois University Press, 2015) with Christine Woodworth. Dr. Osborne is an executive board member for the American Theatre and Drama Society and the President of the Mid-America Theatre Conference.
