In this session, we discuss elements of Mastering® Chemistry, including alignment of the chemistry Dynamic Study Modules to the chapters of Chemistry: A Molecular Approach 5e. We share how grouping questions by learner outcome can provide a more dynamic experience, and provide deployment options for learning and review modes.
Dr. Sylvia Esjornson, Southwest Oklahoma State University
Dr. Sylvia Esjornson, a veteran user of Mastering® Chemistry, Eduspace®, and Chem-Skill Builder®, has been teaching students how to learn from homework using the content options and scheduling capabilities of Mastering Chemistry to provide distributed practice, interleaved practice, and practice testing in Introductory Chemistry and General Chemistry I and II at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She earned a PhD in inorganic chemistry at Purdue University, a BS in chemistry at the University of Scranton, and an AAS in photographic illustration at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Dr. Esjornson has taught at St. Lawrence University, worked for Exxon Products Research Division, and studied and taught at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Esjornson organized the Application of Learning How To Learn to the Chemistry Curriculum symposia at the 2016 and 2018 Biennial Conferences on Chemical Education. She is a certified learning environment architect through the Institute for Learning Environment Design.
