Institutions today are making a commitment to DE&I to promote and support the success of underrepresented students. The field of Economics is one of the least diverse disciplines among college and universities, including a woeful underrepresentation of women and minorities. In this session, we will discuss resources and pedagogical practices for building a more inclusive classroom to inspire students to see themselves in an economics profession. We will showcase current economics research by women and underrepresented minorities, touch on climate change, wage inequality, prenatal substance abuse, and more.

About the speaker
Dr. Thomas Knight, University of Florida
Dr. Thomas Knight is a Senior Lecturer and Chair of the Economics Department at the University of Florida. He teaches a large live-online hybrid principles of macroeconomics course each semester, with an annual enrollment of more than 2,500 students. He has previously taught smaller face-to-face undergraduate intermediate microeconomics, game theory, and mathematical economics courses, as well as MBA level managerial economics, international competition policy, and global trade policy courses. His experience in these diverse classroom settings has informed his understanding of student engagement and learning. He has received numerous teaching and mentorship awards at the University of Florida. He is passionate about economic education and literacy.
