In the immediate aftermath of the 2022 elections, media headlines were effusive with praise for young people’s turnout level. For example, the headline in Governing was “Why Did Near Record-High Numbers of Young People Vote in the Midterms?” However, now that the actual official records of voting participation are in, the data reveal that young people were vastly outvoted by senior citizens. In Georgia, for instance, only 24% of adults under the age of 30 voted compared to 71% among those over the age of 65. This webinar will review the evidence and discuss why so few young people vote.
