CourseConnect Building Construction
In this course, students will learn the components of building construction as related to firefighter and life safety. This course will examine the five types of NFPA classifications for building construction. Loads, structural components, and how fire and other emergencies impact building design and construction will be explored. The components of building systems, their effects on building design and construction, and how structures act under fire and other emergency situations will be examined as well.
CourseConnect Fire and Emergency Safety
This entry-level course introduces the basic principles of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Life Safety Initiatives and overall fire safety considerations. The course focuses on the need for awareness, preparedness, response, and change throughout the emergency services. Students will analyze the safety response cycle for emergency operations.
CourseConnect Fire Behavior and Combustion
This course focuses on the physical properties of fire and how it spreads. Students will explore the phases of fire and its unique properties. This course will cover chemistry, combustion, ignition, heat release rates, and extinguishment.
CourseConnect Fire Prevention
This course introduces students to fire prevention. This course focuses on code enforcement, fire safety education, engineering principles and fire investigation. Students will explore the history of fire prevention, large fire losses, and the resulting code changes brought about by the fires.
CourseConnect Virtual Fire College: Fundamentals of Fire and EMS
In this course, the student will learn fundamentals of fire and emergency services, history and traditions of the fire service up to contemporary influences, fire service tools and resources, principles of fire dynamics, building construction, codes and ordinances, fire protection systems, operation within the fire department rank structure and as a component of the Incident Command System, preincident planning, fire strategy, and tactics, fire and emergency services agencies and organizations, expectations of character and physical fitness for the fire and emergency services, and developing an educational strategy and career path plan.
CourseConnect Virtual EMS Academy: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (including CourseConnect courses aligned with Limmer and Le Baudour EMT textbooks)
This course is designed to prepare the EMT student to work effectively in the chain of a health care team. The course provides didactic knowledge so that the student may efficiently and effectively provide emergency medical care at the basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized agency or department. Students learn to recognize the nature and seriousness of a scene and emergency victim(s), assess extent of injuries or illness, administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment, move or position the patient to minimize further injury or discomfort, and transport the patient to the appropriate medical facility. Students additionally learn the philosophies and systems of emergency medical services as well as effective strategies for communicating with patients, bystanders, families of victims, and other health care and rescue personnel.
