In plant cells, in which organelle does photosynthesis primarily take place?

• A. Lysosome
• B. Chloroplast
• C. Mitochondrion
• D. Golgi apparatus

Answer: (B)

Verified step by step guidance

1. Understand that photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy stored in glucose.
2. Recall that photosynthesis primarily occurs in an organelle that contains chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for capturing light energy.
3. Identify the organelle in plant cells that contains chlorophyll and is specialized for photosynthesis; this organelle is the chloroplast.
4. Recognize that other organelles listed, such as lysosomes, mitochondria, and Golgi apparatus, have different functions unrelated to photosynthesis.
5. Conclude that the chloroplast is the organelle where photosynthesis primarily takes place in plant cells.
