Multiple Choice
In plant cells, photosynthesis occurs specifically in which organelle?
A
Chloroplast
B
Rough endoplasmic reticulum
C
Nucleus
D
Mitochondrion
Verified step by step guidance1
Identify the organelle responsible for photosynthesis in plant cells by recalling the function of each organelle listed.
Recall that the chloroplast contains chlorophyll, the pigment that captures light energy necessary for photosynthesis.
Understand that the rough endoplasmic reticulum is involved in protein synthesis, not photosynthesis.
Recognize that the nucleus contains genetic material and controls cell activities but does not perform photosynthesis.
Know that mitochondria are the site of cellular respiration, which generates energy, but photosynthesis specifically occurs in chloroplasts.
