The first thing I wanna do here is go ahead and distribute this negative into my parentheses here. This will give me a negative h minus three equals 11. Now from here, I can begin using my properties of equality to solve. I, my goal here is to get that h by itself. And my first step in doing that is going ahead and getting rid of this negative three by adding three to both sides. So that three will cancel and I'll end up with a negative H equals 11 plus three, which is 14. Now I have a negative on this H here. In order to get rid of that, I I can go ahead and divide by a negative one. And if I do that here, that will cancel out, leaving me with just h. And 14 divided by negative one will give me negative 14, and this is my solution. Now there are actually a couple of different ways I could have chosen to solve this. Instead of distributing that negative at the beginning, I could have actually started off here by dividing that negative over so that I then just had h plus three equals negative 11. In doing this, I would have gotten the same exact answer. Now another thing that I could have done differently is once I got to this step, if I did end up distributing that negative, I could have added my h over to the other side instead of using my division property of equality in order to cancel my negative. There are often multiple ways to get to the correct answer, and your steps won't always be the exact same as the steps that I take. But you still should get the same exact answer no matter what way you're choosing to solve. Just pay careful attention to each of your steps and always ask for help if you need it. Now one additional thing we want to do here is check our answer. So we can do that by taking our negative 14 and plugging it back into our original equation. Doing that would give me negative negative 14 plus three. And we wanna know, is this a true statement? Is this going to be equal to 11? Now negative 14 plus three is gonna be negative 11. So this is negative, negative 11. We want to know is this equal to 11? We know that two negatives make a positive, so this becomes 11 and I get that 11 equals 11. This is definitely a true statement, so I know that I got my correct answer. So even if you went about solving this equation slightly differently by, for example, taking that negative and dividing it over to the other side from the beginning, you still should end up with a true statement when you go back to check your answer.
