Better Readability and Lower Reading Level:

• The narrative has been extensively revised for better readability and a lower reading level. The authors have shortened long sentences, broken embedded clauses into separate sentences, changed passive sentences to direct active sentences, and simplified non-medical vocabulary.
• The number of words has been substantially reduced to help students manage and navigate the material. This edition is 30,000 words shorter than the Eighth Edition.  Note that the page length is the same as the Eighth Edition to make room for more visuals.
