Geography matters

Sharing our recommendations to the Curriculum and Assessment Review

Geography helps us to make sense of the changing world around us and develops understanding of the diversity of people, places, and environments. Geographers investigate, make decisions and act on contemporary global issues.

Geography matters.

We’ve listened closely to the feedback from teachers, students, examiners and subject experts. We're proud that we’ve already made changes to our geography specifications to update the content and improve the accessibility of our assessments.

However, we know that more substantial changes to content and assessment are still needed.

We're calling for the following changes in GCSE Geography:

Key insights and next steps for Geography teachers

Steps we're already taking to improve GCSE Geography

We’ve been listening to your feedback around our exams and we've looked at ways to improve our qualifications ahead of any reform.

Where we’ve been able to, we’ve made changes to our geography specifications to update the content and improve the accessibility of our assessments, and we’re pleased these changes are having a positive impact on how students experience our assessments.

We've also changed a small number of geographical terms in our specifications to ensure they're culturally up-to-date.
