Healthcare Administrators play a vital role across all parts of the NHS, providing essential administrative support that underpins safe, effective patient care. The knowledge, skills and behaviours developed by Healthcare Administrators such as communication, record‑keeping, systems use and teamwork are highly transferable across clinical, operational and corporate settings within the NHS, supporting workforce flexibility, resilience and progression.

Key responsibilities

An administration assistant carries out routine administrative tasks to support organisational operations, including handling information, supporting meetings and events, using digital systems, and assisting colleagues to ensure day‑to‑day activities run efficiently and to agreed standards.

Progression

This apprenticeship supports progression into a wide range of roles including:

  • Senior Administrative Assistant
  • Patient Pathway Co‑ordinator
  • Medical Secretary (Junior / Entry Level)
  • Business Support Administrator
  • Clinic Co‑ordinator / Appointments Co‑ordinator.

Assessment components

Portfolio of evidence plus any additional assessment(s) selected from the following methods to ensure the assessment outcomes are met in full:

  • interview
  • presentation
  • question and answer
  • project and simulation.

I'm really enjoying my apprenticeship, meeting other colleagues that are on the programme in our classroom sessions and having that independent time to go away, do our own coursework and then meet again.
