Effective Communication Masterclass by Debate Mate

10 November or 16 November, 16:00-17:30 GMT

What is the Debate Mate approach?

The Debate Mate approach focuses on developing transferable communication and leadership skills such as critical and creative thinking, listening and collaboration, problem-solving, core confidence, empathy and resilience. This is achieved through a teaching approach which creates an environment where students develop an awareness of their own thinking and learning skills.

This 90-minute masterclass will equip teachers with the theoretical understanding and practical tools needed to build communication skills in the classroom. Through a combination of interactive activities, idea sharing and planning and consultation time, this session will provide a strong foundation for teachers who wish to enhance teaching and learning through Debate Mate’s approach. This Masterclass will enable teachers to embed our activities into their practice and can be implemented immediately.

Developing Primary Subject Leadership

This course has been developed by Jon Hutchinson and Ed Vainker at Reach Academy Feltham. The course is a seven-hour self-study unit exploring the seven questions that we believe subject leaders at Primary need to answer for their teachers.

Each module explores a question that subject leaders need to answer to foster excellence in the subject at their school:
• How do pupils learn?
• What is the purpose of curriculum?
• How do you define and communicate the intended curriculum?
• How can curriculum materials support with implementing agreed aims?
• How should teachers enact the curriculum?
• How should we assess different curriculum areas?
• How can we support staff to develop their curriculum understanding and delivery?
