Like most college students these days, I’m spending a lot of hours stuck at home. Even though I’m keeping up with my school work, I’m finding I have an excess of time on my hands. If you’re stuck at home, here are some ideas for things to do while you’re there.

Read a book

I don’t know about you, but during the school year it seems that the only kind of books I have time to read are textbooks. I’ve had a list of books that I have been wanting to dive into, a few of which have been piling up dust in my room. So having some downtime might not be the worst thing. Many times students tend to binge watch television when they have extra time, but reading gives your eyes a rest from blue light and gives your brain some exercise.

Get organized

Make to-do lists for assignments and other tasks you need to complete so you’ll stay on track. You may feel like you have a whole bunch of time on your hands at the moment; however, staying organized will prevent you from getting distracted and potentially missing deadlines for online coursework and tests. Being able to organize what you have to do will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Get inspired

Pinterest is a fun way to learn about new crafts, ideas, and projects. Or you could even spend time dreaming about your next vacation by looking at travel resources. While you may not be able to spend time the way you used to, working your mind will help you be more positive

Apply for jobs / internships

Thinking about the future can be a little scary, but it is also exciting! Spend some of this downtime researching possible career opportunities for your area of study. Read job descriptions in order to have a comprehensive understanding of qualifications and responsibilities. Put yourself out there and dream big. You’ve got to play to win, after all, and now you have time to truly focus on how you want to be conveyed.

Write

Share your insight and experiences by starting a blog or posting on social media. Creating content is unique since you can be the author and start a conversation with your audience. You have so much time, so you might as well utilize it to create something that shows your voice and passions.

Being quarantined is no fun and can sometimes make you feel isolated and unhappy. Find new ways to keep your mind engaged and your body active. Focus on the things you can still do and try to make the best of it.
