    The month kicked off with the Conservative Party Conference and ended with the Budget so there’s been plenty of political reports and speeches to take in. Elsewhere this month, schools and colleges have campaigned for extra funds, the DfE published initial performance data on this summer’s exams, Ofsted provided more details on its proposed new inspection framework, World Mental Health Day generated a flurry of reports, and some reforms to apprenticeships were confirmed.

    'Back to school' month and with it an outpouring of reports and other activity. These have included growing concerns about a squeeze on creative subjects, an MPs report on Ofsted, the launch of the tender process for the first T levels, the build-up of a new campaign around FE, the release of key reports on EU migration and international students, and further discussion on access to HE, all topped off with the OECD's latest annual big picture analysis of how education is performing across member countries.

    A month dominated by exam results with analysis and implications still coming in. Also a month that seen concerns expressed about an increase in pupil off-rolling and university unconditional offers, important reports on disadvantaged pupils, teacher shortages, Level 4/5 provision and childhood in 2018, and growing media interest in Ofsted’s proposals for a new school inspection framework and the extent of the government’s long-term commitment to its current apprenticeship target .

    A month which has seen the exam season draw to a sweltering close, the Education Festival bandwagon do the rounds, the government pilot a website for teacher recruitment, the Education Secretary stick with the schedule for T Levels, some changes for the apprenticeship levy announced but apprenticeships starts remaining modest, degree returns and TEF results reported and, as listed here, a host of new reports published.
