CPCS courses will give you foundation training and assessment and are suitable if you have received little or no formal instruction. Or if you wish to refresh your skills, we offer a short duration course.

The courses are delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practicals. You will be assessed through theory and practical tests.

You must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before attending this course.

Course overview:

This four-hour awareness course is suitable for everyone as it equips learners with the required knowledge to recognise a suspected mental health condition. It also teaches you the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost a person towards professional help. It’s a great stepping stone into other courses such as First Aid for Mental Health.

The course programme covers:

• What is First Aid for Mental Health?
• Identifying mental health conditions.
• Providing advice and starting a conversation.

Assessment:

The qualification is assessed through a multiple-choice question paper. A Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the assessment process, all candidates will be awarded the relevant level Ofqual regulated RQF/SCQF qualification based on the course they have completed. Each qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. We strongly recommended that each learner attends an annual refresher training and complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

Course overview:

This one-day course provides learners with comprehensive knowledge and skills on a range of the most common mental health conditions. Those undertaking this course will be considered First Aiders for Mental Health and be a point of contact within the workplace to help and support those with a suspected mental health condition.

Building on the learnings of the Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health course, this 1-day course introduces the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan. This allows learners to provide their peers with comprehensive guidance and support for a suspected mental health condition. They will be able to offer signposting to professional help and support that person whilst they are receiving professional assistance.

This course also covers the effects of drugs and alcohol and provides learners with the skills and knowledge to assist employers in implementing a positive mental health culture to support employees within the workplace.

Assessment:

Course overview:

This two-day course builds on the First Aid for Mental Health and covers a wider range of mental health conditions. It will explore the range of therapy and professional support that a person may be given by professional bodies during treatment for a mental health condition.

The course is suitable for anyone within the workplace. Its specifically aimed at those who hold a supervisory/managerial level position who are responsible for first aid for mental health within their organisation as well as implementing a positive mental health culture.

Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day. A Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required.

Certification:

Each qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. Course overview:

This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition, this course will include any protocol changes that may have arisen since their last training course. This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. There is a minimum of 18 hours spread over at least 3 days.

Course overview:

This two-day First Aid at Work Requalification course is designed for those who currently hold a First Aid at Work qualification which is due to expire. The important thing to remember is that as soon as the certificate expires, the First Aider is no longer considered competent to act as a First Aider in the workplace which may well leave the employer with a shortfall of First Aiders. Therefore, it would be prudent to arrange the requalification before it expires. There is a minimum of 12 hours spread over at least two days.  

To attend this course, there is a requirement to already hold a First Aid at Work Nuco certificate.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

This one-day course is for those who have entered, or are about to enter, the construction and civil engineering industry. The course gives you an awareness of health and safety and how it affects your daily role. It can be used as preparation training for the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test or as refresher training. This course is the first step in the progressive CITB Site Safety Plus suite of courses that range from training for operatives entering the industry up to senior manager/director.

This two-day course aims to refresh your understanding of your key responsibilities and accountability for site safety, health, welfare and the environment, enabling you to provide healthy and safe working conditions for everyone on site. The United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) recognises this course as meeting the required standard for all managers working on UKCG sites.

• The current focus of the Health and Safety Executive’s attention

Category 5 builds on the competencies developed at Categories 3 and 4 and covers hydraulic frame shaft bracing. Participants will also learn the correct assembly and safe use of trench boxes.

This course has been developed in collaboration with major utilities construction firms and key stakeholders from across the industry.

This course covers five categories:

Category 2 - Implement Safe (Digging) Excavating Practices
Category 3 - Install, Inspect & Remove Timber Support Systems

Course overview:

This one-day course has been developed in collaboration with industry to provide a uniform approach to health, safety and environmental awareness training across the utilities sector, in line with Health and Safety Executive guidelines. It is aimed at all individuals involved in the operational activities of the water industry who require access to sites, both permanent and temporary, including all levels of operatives, supervisors and management.

The course programme covers:

• Understanding workplace responsibilities for both the employee and employer
• Understanding the effects of our work on the environment
• Identifying and controlling risks and hazards
• Identifying physical hazards in the workplace and how to minimise their impact
• Understanding, identifying, mitigating and minimising of occupational hazards in the workplace
• Understanding emergencies and their impacts in the workplace
• Sewage network and process operations
• Highway working and excavations.

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical. You will be assessed throughout the course with a multiple choice theory assessment after each of the eight modules.

Certification:

EUSR photo ID card with qualification stated on back of card valid for 3 years from the date of training. Candidates must complete all eight modules and pass the SHEA Water assessment to gain EUSR SHEA Water registration.

Course overview:

This one-day course has been developed in collaboration with UK water companies and key stakeholders from across the industry. This course is for anyone who must be in possession of a National Water Hygiene card, working on a restricted operations area at sites such as service reservoirs, water pumping stations, water treatment works, wells, springs and boreholes or working on the network of water mains and service pipes.

The course programme covers:

• The importance of water
• Water as a carrier of disease
• Potential contamination and its consequences
• Preventing contamination.

The course is delivered through classroom-based tutorials. You will be assessed through a multiple-choice written theory test and completion of a health-screening questionnaire.

Course overview:

This half-day training course is aimed at anyone who selects mounts or uses abrasive wheels. The course covers different types of abrasive wheel, diamond blades, pre-use inspection to wheels and tools, hazards, correct PPE, fire control, regulations, correct cutting/grinding techniques and correct selection of wheels.

The course programme covers:

• An overview of the HSWA 1974 and how it effects the planning of work with abrasive wheels
• What are the duties of care placed on employers by PUWER 1998

This course will give you foundation training and assessment in operating and maintaining a CAT and Genny and is suitable if you have received no formal instruction or, if you wish to refresh your skills, we offer a short duration course.

This testing procedure is aimed at anyone who wears or is required to wear respiratory protective equipment (RPE), and to ensure that an adequate protective seal can be formed when wearing this. The test can take around an hour for each person being tested. This course is designed to assist organisations and/or individuals to be compliant with HSE’s guidance on Respiratory Protective Equipment at Work (HSG53 – fourth edition).
