A child of 6 years was referred for difficulties across a variety of developmental areas. William (not his real name) did not have any formal diagnosis but had some difficulties with writing and reading. The initial referral and consultation highlighted the fact that Willliam was very small for his age, summer born and immature across most developmental areas in comparison to his peers. Initially, the referral focused on the output William produced, reading words and writing sentences. However, as the consultation progressed, there also appeared to be some other difficulties with social and physical development.read more

On the evening of Tuesday 19th of June, we partnered with NHS England, as the awards sponsor for the 2018 Allied Health Professions Officer Awards.
Our team joined Suzanne Rastrick, Chief Allied Health Professions Officer at NHS England alongside other Allied Health Professionals to celebrate the outstanding contributions made by allied health professionals (AHPs) to improving health, care and wellbeing for patients and communities.
The nominees were recognised for their dedication, innovation and leadership in practice, in the impressive library of the Royal College of Physicians.
The ceremony began with an opening remark from Sir Malcolm Grant CBE, Chair of NHS England who summarised the awards with three important points:
- We want to be recognised
- We want permission to innovate
- We want to lift the competency
He emphasised the importance of fully integrated systems and integrated health care in supporting the development of Allied Health Professionals across NHS England as well as the need to embrace a huge variety of change and confidence to adopt innovation and creativity.

AHP Support Worker - in partnership with Public Health England Award
Winner: Alison Marshall, AHP Assistant, and Cathy Young, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Sound staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: A reading for wellbeing therapy group.
AHP Leader - in partnership with Health Education England
Winner: Chloe Adams, Community Gastroenterology Dietician, Birmingham Community Nutrition, Birmingham Community NHS Trust: Dietician led community gastroenterology service.
The evening concluded with an inspirational performance by the NHS Choir.
