The webinar titled ‘Three themes for Strategy’ centred around the topics of digital transformation, sustainability and non-profit.
Aiming at addressing the three areas of development in strategic management, the authors discussed how educators can overcome the challenges these pose to teaching.

Strategy in a changing landscape
As our authors pointed out, strategy is changing. With new technologies and develeopments emerging onto the landscape, the traditional strategy models do not always include platforms, and new drivers in industry have changed up the subject significantly.
Digital transformation, in particular, has become an essential asset to organisations. In higher education, for example, digital assets such as Revel help educators to reach students more effectively and provide opportunities for students to explore and apply concepts in ways that traditional print texts do not allow.
Sustainability as an essential component of strategy
With many products and services today appearing to be free, price cost differentiation is not always clear. Modern strategy educators must accommodate these changes in their teaching.
The webinar considered the growing importance of the issue of sustainability in strategy today. Statistics brought out in the presentation underlined that sustainability is increasingly becoming as important as economic growth, if not more so.
Non-profit organisations in strategy
Later, our authors recognised the importance of non-profit organisations, discussing the similarities and differences in strategy they have in comparison to for-profit organisations. They also considered the challenges of reaching strategy students from non-profit backgrounds.
The webinar, which lasted just over an hour, provided insight into the how educators can adapt to teaching strategy in a way that enables students to put concepts into action. Some highlights were brought out on the methods and resources educators can use to help their students do this. Revel® is one of them.
Teaching strategy to modern students
The webinar’s digital audience were delighted to hear how the authors have designed the latest edition of Exploring Strategy with the needs of modern students in mind. The authors also discussed some of the ways their new books seeks to overcome challenges in teaching strategy.
One participant expressed they were very happy to hear the authors have strengthened the discussion around non-profit organisations competing with for-profits, and that the book considers how their economic concerns can be very similar.
Equally keen interest was shown in the Revel version of the book which enhances the material with self-assessment features and additional content like videos and animations. The Revel edition helps students to develop their critical thinking by testing the applications of theory to real life scenarios. Integrated writing activities and case studies provide opportunities to put learning into action, something the authors believe is essential to understanding of the subject.
