Welcome back. Let's look at our next problem. Artificial selection is a process of using animal breeding or plant breeding to acquire desired blank. So as opposed to natural selection where we look at um gene varieties that convey an advantage or disadvantage in a natural environment. We now have artificial selection breeding. So the person doing the breeding choosing desirable characteristics. So how are these chosen? Well, let's look at our choices. Choice A says genotype. The phenotype Is that outward appearance of an organism? So that is what is going to be chosen in artificial selection. So let's look at our next answers. We've got an answer here, but we'll just go through and look at them to be thorough here. Choice B says genotype. Well, we could get a little confused by this because the breeder might inadvertently be selecting for a certain genotype. But in the end, um what they're actually picking for is the outward appearance. So it doesn't really matter what the genotype is, they're looking for the outward trait. So you might need a certain genotype to get the phenotype you want. But that's the concern there. Choice C. Says a little frequency. That would be the frequency with which an allele appears in a population. Well, again, animal breeding is that process of picking which females and males to breed together to get a trait, not looking at how frequently and it occurs in a frequency in a population. That would be something you'd be studying and studying a population. So not our correct answer. And choice D. Says chromosome number and no um there's not a selection of chromosome number as part of animal or plant breeding. So we'll eliminate Choice D. Again might happen inadvertently if a different number of chromosomes gave a desirable trait. But what they're looking for is the desired phenotype choice A. See you in the next video.
