Remember that in mitosis there's these extra phase called interface and this interface we're going to call it the growth phase which is where the cell after dividing is going to just grow in size in order for a second division to take place in the future. So this interface is going to be divided into three main phases which is going to be G one or growth one then as one or synthesis one and then G two which is growth two or the second phase of growth. However if growth do not does not occur in this growth one phase then these cell is not going to jump into the synthesis of one phase because it's still not ready for this phase. So what it's going to do instead is that it's going to jump into an extra phase or a checkpoint. Let's call it called G zero. And the cell is going to stay in this G zero state without growing until conditions become favorable and it starts growing again. At that point it is going to continue this process.
