Information is stored in the ______ of a DNA molecule.

• A. sequence of nitrogenous bases
• B. double helix shape
• C. sugar molecules
• D. phosphate backbone

Answer: (A)

Verified step by step guidance

1. Understand the structure of a DNA molecule, which consists of a sugar-phosphate backbone and nitrogenous bases.
2. Recall that the sugar-phosphate backbone forms the structural framework of DNA, providing stability but not storing genetic information.
3. Recognize that the double helix shape describes the overall 3D structure of DNA, not the specific storage of information.
4. Focus on the nitrogenous bases (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine), which pair specifically and form the 'rungs' of the DNA ladder.
5. Conclude that the sequence of these nitrogenous bases along the DNA strand encodes genetic information, making it the correct answer.
