Which of the following is a phase of mitosis?

• A. Prophase
• B. Interphase
• C. Cytokinesis
• D. Meiosis

Answer: (A)

Verified step by step guidance

1. Understand that mitosis is a process of cell division that results in two genetically identical daughter cells from a single parent cell.
2. Recognize the phases of mitosis: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
3. Identify that interphase is not a phase of mitosis; it is the phase where the cell prepares for division by replicating its DNA.
4. Note that cytokinesis is the process that follows mitosis, where the cytoplasm of the cell divides, creating two separate cells.
5. Understand that meiosis is a different type of cell division that results in four genetically diverse daughter cells, not a phase of mitosis.
