Which step of mitosis involves the condensing of DNA into chromosomes?
A
Metaphase
B
Prophase
C
Anaphase
D
Telophase
Verified step by step guidance1
Begin by understanding the stages of mitosis: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
In prophase, the chromatin fibers condense into discrete chromosomes, making them visible under a microscope.
During metaphase, chromosomes align at the cell's equatorial plane, but they are already condensed.
Anaphase involves the separation of sister chromatids, not the condensing of DNA.
Telophase is when the chromosomes de-condense back into chromatin as the cell prepares to divide.
