We've been learning about a lot of different immune cells, and we do have to be able to differentiate between all the different types of immune cells and the classes of immune cells. And granulocytes is one of the major classes of immune cells. So let's have a look. Answer choice A says granulocytes travel through the lymphatic system. So the lymphatic system is going to be a network of lymph nodes that moves lymph tissue and lymph fluid throughout your body. But remember, granulocytes travel through the bloodstream, they don't actually travel through the lymphatic system. We're going to learn about the lymphocytes, which are gonna be natural killer cells, T cells, and B cells. They're going to commonly use the lymphatic system. That's where they get their name from. Answer choice b says granulocytes are the most numerous leukocytes in circulation. What does the leukocytes mean? Remember that that means white blood cell. So remember that there are a lot of different cells in the category of leukocyte or white blood cell that includes the granulocytes, the agranulocytes, and the lymphocytes which is a whole bunch of cells. Now, are the granulocytes the most common white blood cells? Yes, they are. In fact, neutrophils, one type of granulocyte, is the most common white blood cell of all. I think it makes up 70% of all of the leukocytes, and that is a type of granulocyte. So, yes, granulocytes are the most abundant and numerous leukocytes in circulation. This is most likely because they are the first to respond to any form of infection or allergic reaction or injury. So that's probably gonna be your answer, but let's look at the other 2. Granulocytes develop in the thymus. So we will learn more about the organ which is known as the thymus later in our lessons, but granulocytes do not develop in the thymus. The t cells of the adaptive immune system are going to develop there. That's where they get the t in their name for thymus. So, that's not what we're looking for. Answer choice d says granulocytes do not contain distinct granules in their cytoplasm. Absolutely, they do. So that's not true. This is where they get their name from. They're called granulocytes because they have granules full of different chemicals that perform different functions depending on the type of granulocyte you're talking about. But usually the chemicals in these granules are used to fight infections. But, yes, they get their names from these granules, so d is not the correct answer. The correct answer here is answer choice b. Granulocytes are the most numerous and abundant leukocyte or white blood cell in circulation. Okay, everyone. Let's move on to our next video.
