 Molarity is the number of moles of solute not grams per volume of solution.  Be sure to convert mass to moles. 

 The volume of the solution must also be used in the calculation. This value is the number of moles of NaOH used. 

 Be sure the volume of the solution is expressed in liters in the calculation. 

 Review the units of molarity in both the numerator and the denominator of the calculation. 

 Molarity is the ratio of moles of solute to the volume of solution expressed in liters. 

 What is the molar concentration of a solution prepared by dissolving 25.75 g of NaOH in water to produce 500.0 mL of solution? 

 This is the volume expressed in liters. 

Using the data in the question, solve the equation M1V1=M2V2 for V1.

Using the equation M1V1=M2V2, one of the answers is correct.

M1V1=M2V2

How many mL of 5.0 M nitric acid (HNO3) are required to make 1.00 L of a 0.00100 M solution of HNO3 (approximately the concentration of acid in acid rain)?

 Two moles of sodium ions are produce form each mole of sodium thiosulfate. 

 The volume of the solution needs to be considered as well as the dissociation of sodium thiosulfate. 

 The number of moles of solute is calculated by multiplying the molarity by the volume in liters. 

 Correct, each mole of sodium thiosulfate produces two moles of sodium ions. 

 Molarity is the ratio of moles of solute to liters of solution.  It provides the conversion factor between moles of solution and liters of solution. 

Aqueous solutions of sodium thiosulfate, Na2S2O3, are used as an antidote to some snakebites. How many moles of sodium ions are found in 10.0 mL of a 0.15 M solution of Na2S2O3?
